Frequently Asked Questions

No. Nothing changes for what others can bill to your Medicare or insurance. Dr. Current just will not directly bill them. When Dr. sends in a prescription the pharmacy still bills Medicare or insurance. When Dr. Current orders a lab, the lab still bills Medicare or insurance. When Dr. Current refers someone to a specialist, that specialist will still bill Medicare or insurance. Sometimes, if you choose to not bill through Medicare or insurance, Current Internal Medicine may be able to find you a direct price or bill through us at a price that is lower than your co-pay. Lets just say, we have all seen some weird “explanation of benefits” and medical bills in our lives. There are also newer tests that Medicare or insurance does not cover yet.

We do not bill your insurance for the membership fee or any of the services that we provide. We will get pre-authorization for prescriptions if necessary. You can use HSA (Health Savings Account) for FSA funds to pay for membership fee (we recommend that you check with your HSA/FSA administrator to confirm). Legal language is included in the One Big Beautiful Bill allowing HSA funds to be used for direct primary care membership fees. We can provide a “super bill” (receipt) detailing medical necessity.

We want you to be fully satisfied with Current Internal Medicine! We want you to recognize the value of your membership. Please reach out to us if you feel that this membership is not right for you anymore. We do however ask for an initial 3 month commitment. If you do cancel your membership, then we request a one month notice.

We do not recommend getting rid of your health insurance. If you need surgery, have a major accident or injury or other major health events, you will still need coverage. If you have specialists that you need to see, you will still need health insurance for that. However DPC typically brings the costs of health care down considerably so you may be able to choose a more cost effective model in the future. We recommend that you speak with an independent insurance broker to discuss this possibility.
We recommend speaking with your insurance about DPC membership fees. In some cases, they can count towards a deductible (not Medicare/Medicaid). In some cases our DPC can prevent an urgent care visit or ER visit, the cost of our DPC membership fees may be way less than the potential copays for these types of visits.

Dr Current has a medical license to practice in the states of Indiana, Florida, and Arizona. The decision for in-person visit vs. virtual visit no longer rests with insurance coverage. This is a decision between you and Dr. Current.
If you live in Florida for a portion of time during the winter, virtual care and care management will not stop during the winter months. So feel free to contact us to continue your care while traveling or wintering.

You will have a portal, email and phone number. Our phone number not only receives phone calls but also receives text messages and SMS and you can email through the portal. The portal is a web based portal, so you do not need to download a new app to communicate. Unlike what you may have experienced before, you will be communicating with a doctor, not a complicated system, large staff or a stranger.
